It started out with this rock band I played in for a few years called Sloe. Sloe loved to bring the rock and we had a blast doing it. One year, 3 of the 4 of us got a house together in downtown San Jose. It was old, and rounded, and had tons of space. We soon decided that we’d build a rehearsal space in the basement, and a recording studio in the common area of the house. We did this in the summer, and when winter came around and the band had just been touring on a new record, “The Night All Systems Fail”, and half of the band decided that moving to Los Angeles is what the band needed to do if we were going to attempt to do this full time. Two of us just couldn’t see moving to Los Angeles, so we stayed, breaking up the band, and leaving us with this rehearsal / recording space. Needless to say it didn’t take long for us to realize that we should just start recording our friends instead of break it all down, so that’s what we did, and continue to do years later. It’s nothing special, and it’s not all tits-ed out. It just is comfortable and easy and natural.
